The Macarthur region — bordered by the Georges River corridor and Dharawal National Park — is home to a wide variety of spiders, from completely harmless huntsmen to the two species you actually need to respect: the Sydney funnel-web and the redback.

The species we treat

• Sydney funnel-web (Atrax robustus) — highly venomous, common in Kentlyn, Wedderburn, St Helens Park bushland fringe
• Redback (Latrodectus hasselti) — everywhere across Campbelltown, loves shed corners, garden pots and letterboxes
• Black house spider (Badumna insignis) — untidy webbing around windows and eaves
• Whitetail (Lampona) — hunts other spiders, no permanent web
• Huntsman — harmless but startling; we relocate rather than treat where possible

How we treat

A perimeter application of a modern pyrethroid (usually bifenthrin or deltamethrin) around eaves, windows, doors, weep holes and outbuildings gives 6–9 months of protection. We time treatments for early spring so the residual is fresh through the peak funnel-web/redback season.
