AS 3660 is the Australian Standard governing termite management. It has three parts: AS 3660.1 covers termite management for new building work, AS 3660.2 covers management and control of termite infestations in existing buildings, and AS 3660.3 covers assessment criteria for new termite management products.

AS 3660.1 — new builds

Applies to every new home, extension and habitable outbuilding. Requires a physical or chemical termite management system be installed and a durable notice fixed to the meter box or similar location describing the system and its warranty period.

AS 3660.2 — existing homes

Covers annual inspections, mapping conducive conditions, chemical soil treatments, baiting systems, above-ground bait stations and long-term monitoring. This is the standard your annual inspection is written to.

Why it matters at handover and at sale

• Missing AS 3660.1 durable notice = compliance issue for a new build
• No AS 3660.2 report on file = warranty on any chemical treatment lapses
• Pre-purchase pest inspections are written to AS 4349.3 — a companion standard to AS 3660.2
