Subterranean termites lose moisture rapidly through their soft cuticle and die quickly in dry environments. To survive away from the nest, they surround themselves with mud, saliva and workings that retain water. That elevated moisture level is exactly what we look for.
How moisture mapping works
We use a Tramex pin-less moisture meter to scan skirting boards, architraves, door frames, wet-area walls and any timber we can’t visually inspect. The meter measures relative moisture without leaving marks. Readings above 18–20% in a normally-dry timber almost always indicate termite workings, a hidden leak, or wood decay — all of which need investigation.
