Termite Warranties Explained — What Up to 5-Year Coverage Actually Means

When we install a Termidor HE chemical barrier we provide up to a 5-year written warranty. Here’s exactly what that warranty covers, what it doesn’t, and how to keep it valid.

When we install a Termidor HE chemical barrier we provide up to a 5-year written warranty — but customers often ask exactly what that means. There are two layers to every termite warranty: the manufacturer’s product warranty (covering the chemical itself) and the applicator’s workmanship warranty (covering the installation). Both run concurrently and both have conditions.

What’s covered

If subterranean termites breach the treated zone within the warranty period and cause damage to structural timber, the applicator will retreat the affected area at no charge. Where additional Termite Damage Repair (TDR) cover has been purchased, repair costs are also included up to the policy limit (typically $100,000 – $250,000 depending on the policy).

Conditions that keep the warranty valid

  • Annual timber pest inspection to AS 4349.3 by a licensed inspector — miss one and the warranty lapses immediately, no grace period
  • No disturbance of the treated zone — no new garden beds, paths, retaining walls or plumbing trenches against the slab
  • No alterations or renovations that compromise the barrier without re-treatment (see our renovation article)
  • All conducive conditions listed on the report addressed within a reasonable time

What is not covered

  • Damage already present at the time of treatment
  • Drywood termites (Cryptotermes — extremely rare in Macarthur)
  • Damage caused by other timber-destroying organisms (borers, wood decay fungi)
  • Termite entry through a known untreated zone (some homes have inaccessible areas that must be excluded from the treatment plan and are listed on the certificate)
